Ed Weaver Is A Nitwit 11.4.06

You can tell election day is close at hand and the neocons are getting nervous because Mr. Weaver is telling this newspaper's readers to vote Republican. Not sure about voting the Republican ticket? Well he has a whole list of dubious reasons to scare you and obscure the truth, none of which really make any sense on even a cursory examination.

Here are a couple of excerpts from Weaver's 11.4.06 article and my feelings about them:

On the subject of the Judicial branch...

"• the appointment of liberal, activist federal judges who try to usurp the powers of the legislative branch of government"
A classic red herring of the right. When the judges rule in favor of right-wing positions, they're responsibly upholding the U.S. Constitution. When they disagree, well they're activist judges pushing an agenda. So if the judges rule that the ban on partial birth abortion is constitutional, I wonder if Mr. Weaver will call them activists? Surely they must be because the constitution never mentions the word "abortion" so any ruling is simply going to be an interpretation and therefore activism. If they overturn the law, I can hear him shouting now, "That's right, folks, we need more right-wing activist conservative judges."

Republicans aren't the only ones with a legitimate gripe on this one either since many Democrats feel it was conservative activist judges that awarded the 2004 presidential election to George Bush.

And on the economy...
"Despite what you hear from the media, folks, this economy is rock solid; growth, low unemployment, mortgate rates, jobs production, disposable income, raises in middle-class income, stock market gains, whatever gauges you want to use, it's roaring."
Here are some gauges that Eddie didn't give his readers. For every 1000 Americans: 159 have no health insurance; 126 live in poverty; 50% report income of less than $30,000. The economy may be roaring, but for who? The select 25,000 (out of 300 million) that make $5M/year or more? I wonder how many of those gainfully employed used to have $25/hr + benefits manufacturing jobs but now work part time for Walmart for $5/hr and no benefits.

Besides, this economy is pumped up with borrowed money anyway. Its like depositing a check that draws on your credit card into your checking account, spending it, and then saying how financially secure you've suddenly become. Things certainly look good but there will come a day when you have to pay the piper.

About how horrible life will be under Democrats...
"• the possibility of the Pledge of Allegiance being removed from public schools to increase
• the possibility of "In God We Trust" being removed from our currency to increase
• the left's assault on the very word "Christmas" to intensify
Okay, I'll tackle these three together. Funny how I haven't heard one candidate, Republican or Democrat, stating these issues in any way, shape, or form. Even so, apparently only Republicans are patriotic citizens with strongly-held religious beliefs. Also notice the use of scare qualifiers that have no measure of accountabililty ... "possibility," "increase," and "intensify." It reminds me of the Jonathan Swift satire A Modest Proposal that he penned back in 1729. Yes, the enemy is so terrible that they'll even resort to eating the opposition's babies! I'm sure Democrats will be serving roasted Republican babies for Thanksgiving dinner. The commie pinkos.

Oh, and Ed, you forgot that the Democrats will all be burning the American flag at their election-win parties followed by a trip to their local cemetery where they'll spit on the graves of our bravest Veterans.

Ed Weaver's column appears every Saturday in The Record newspaper in Troy, NY. I'd say he's a right-wing conservative, but all indications are that he's even whackier than that. His views are so skewed, and based in a reality that I don't even recognize, that I think he sees the world through fun house mirrors‚ only it isn't funny. He's proof of the theory that hindsight is 20/20, only his vision is 20/100...20 for those things that support his views, 100 for those that don't.
