First Muslim Elected To House Of Reps

Thanks to one of my daily blog reads, One Pissed Off Veteran, for the heads up on this story.

Democrat Keith Ellison became a trailblazer in many ways when he was elected to represent Minnesota's 5th Congressional District that covers the Minneapolis area.

His Muslim Faith
Besides being the first African-American from Minnesota to be elected to the U.S. House, Ellison also becomes the first person of Muslim faith elected to the House of Representatives. His religious beliefs are ones of inclusiveness, "Mine have come from both Catholicism and Islam. I was raised Catholic and later became a Muslim while attending Wayne State University. I am inspired by the Quran's message of an encompassing divine love, and a deep faith guides my life every day."

He was endorsed by the Twin Cities newspaper American Jewish World with his position on the Israeli-Palestinian issue as supportive of the two-state solution and the road map to peace process. He has been critical of the Hamas movement.

Only in the United States do we see such diversity. I wish him luck!
