Pleasure taken from someone else's misfortune.
I don't know if it's worse karma to admit this or to lie by denying that I feel this way. I'll err on the side of honesty.
Ted Haggard — Evangelical Gay John and Drug User?
Rev. Ted Haggard, the leader of the influential National Association of Evangelicals that reaches 30 million parishioners and vocal opponent of the drive for same-sex marriage, resigned after being accused of paying for sex with a man. He also stepped aside as head of his 14,000-member New Life Church while a church panel investigates.
Haggard, a married father of five, denied the allegations saying he, "Never had a gay relationship with anybody, and I'm steady with my wife, I'm faithful to my wife."
Mike Jones, 49, said Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month for three years and that he helped Haggard find a source for crystal meth to use during their sexual liaisons. Jones said that he had advertised himself as an escort on the Internet and that a man who called himself Art contacted him. (Art is Haggard's middle name.) Jones said he later saw the man on television identified as Haggard. Jones said he has voice mail messages from Haggard as well as an envelope he said Haggard used to mail him cash. Could this be the equivalent of Monica's blue dress???
As of this post, NBC is reporting that Haggard has admitted to a confidante that some of the allegations are true.
Ann Coulter — Perpetrator of Voter Fraud?
Well she's made her bread and butter living by the sword so it should come as no surprise that she may meet her public demise by dying by the sword. Another conservative that isn't quite as squeaky clean as declared when they are beating down people in their sights with contrary opinions.
Coulter is under investigation for election fraud. She has refused to cooperate in a nine month investigation about whether she voted in the wrong precinct. A local official has been trying to clarify her actual address since March 27.
Knowingly voting in a wrong precinct is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. The case will likely be turned over to the Florida state Attorney General's office. But we all know the corrupt Florida political apparatus is dominated by conservatives that swing things their way...including national elections.
I can only hope that she is zealously investigated as she would wish upon her enemies.
U.S. Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) — Is He Or Isn't He?
Back in mid-October, gay activist Mike Rogers confirmed the forever-circulating rumors that Idaho Senator Larry Craig has had gay affairs. Hard-right Republican Craig denied the allegations. The truth hasn't been decided, but his accusers haven't come forward with any proof so this story has died on the vine.
Craig has opposed legislation like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) that would benefit gay and lesbian people, and he has been a vocal supporter of several anti-gay bills. Craig voted for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and supports a Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.
Regardless of the story's truthfulness, I feel some satisfaction knowing that he is feeling some of the very pressure that he and his ilk have placed on an entire community.
U.S. Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) — Victim or Victimizer?
Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL), expected to be an easy victor for re-election in November, abruptly resigned from Congress and apologized in the wake of questions about sexually explicit e-mails he wrote to a 16-year-old male former page. The Foley case appears to be pederasty not pedophilia. 'Pederasty' is a very close relationship between an adult male and an adolescent boy. This may or may not include sexual activity and could also describe a non-sexual mentoring-type relationship with emotional overtones.
Some lessons learned from the Foley scandal: Not all gay men are interested in minors; not all people sexually abused as children are interested in minors; not all alcoholics are interested in minors; and not all Republicans are interested in minors.
