I had quite a day yesterday, making a few deposits and withdrawals to the karma bank.
Stopped at Empire Vision Center to have my mother's glasses repaired after she sat on them. I re-introduced myself to the gal who helped me. We worked together in the Grand Union deli 25 years ago. She didn't remember me and wasn't able to help me so she recommended Wal*Mart. At Wal*Mart, the gal was very nice and fixed them.
-1 Karma Withdrawal: She fixed the glasses free of charge.
+1 Karma Deposit: I gave her all the singles I had in my pocket, a $3 tip. She was shocked and didn't quite know what to do. Hey, she did me a good turn.
Next up was Rite-Aid #1.
+1 Karma Deposit: Bought toothpaste and dishwashing soap to include in my charitable giving.
Next up was Rite-Aid #2.
+1 Karma Deposit: Bought more toothpaste and dishwashing soap.
-1 Karma Withdrawal: Forgot my coupon but the gal who always rings me up told me to run to the car and get it.
When I got back, there was a wad of singles on the counter. I grabbed them thinking they were mine. When I finished my next errand at the post office, I realized I was $6 ahead of the game. This could have been a karma withdrawal — but at who's expense? I thought about it...that money wasn't mine.
+1 Karma Deposit: I drove 10 minutes back to Rite-Aid #2, told the cashier, and returned the money. The guy behind me says, "See, there are honest people in the world." To which I replied, "Yes. Yes there are!" Bonus points for feeling good!
Net result: +2 karma deposit today.
