Albany (NY) County District Attorney David Soares issued arrest warrants after investigating a Florida pharmacy he says operated an illicit steroid distribution network.
Another company under criminal scrutiny, Applied Pharmacy in Mobile, AL, also has allegedly supplied steroids or human growth hormone to certain high-profile athletes. Sports Illustrated is reporting that John Rocker has turned up on the company's client list. He denies any knowledge of the deal that records show took place in 2003 but his publicist made a statement that he took them to recover from a rotator cuff injury.
While at his peak as the Atlanta Brave's closer, Rocker was heavily criticized for making statements that were considered racist, anti-homosexual and sexist. Speaking of New York City, Rocker told Sports Illustrated in January 2000:
"It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark, looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing."Evander Holyfield and Jose Conseco have also been implicated.
