Congresswoman Millender-McDonald Dies

Representative Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA), a long-time ally of the GLBT community, died early Sunday of cancer at the age of 68. After serving in the California State Assembly, she was in her 7th term representing a heavily Democratic district that includes Long Beach — which has one of the largest gay populations in the country. Every election cycle, I jokingly would curse her long title and name as I prepared a lengthy and very cramped Voter Guide for the GLBT PAC where I serve on the Board of Directors.

Under California election procedures, Governor Schwarzenegger has 14 days to set a date for a special election to fill the seat.
