TV Thursday: Lost

** SPOILER ALERT FOR ENTIRE POST **

This episode tied together quite a few loose ends, particularly how Sawyer, Locke, and Locke's father are all intertwined. It also left some open questions setting us up for the final show of the season.

Primary Storyline and Backstory
• We went back in time to the night that Locke left the Barracks with the Others. Ben invited him along and the whole group left, with Locke's father in tow, and they set up a tent city in an island clearing. Locke's father is tied to a totem pole type thingy. Where'd that come from? Anyway, Ben said that Locke had to kill his father in order to release his past life's demons and to become an Other. Locke, good saint that he is, can't kill him.
• What, no killing? So Suddenly Seeking Richard took Locke aside, showed him Sawyer's life file and suggested he get him to kill the father for him. Ben's group de-camped and headed out. Where they're going, I have no idea. But Locke is persona non grata until Daddy-o is dead and presented to the group. So off Locke went to find someone to kill his Dad. He wants to be part of the Others to find his true destiny.
• Ben continued to tease us that Locke brought his father to the island. The father said he was in a terrible car accident in Florida and when he woke up he was on the island in the room where Locke initially saw him. He assumed he is dead and asks them all "Don't you know where we are?" He continued to make insinuations that they are in hell. I think this is a red herring by the writers.
• Okay, so Locke showed up at the beach and pursuaded Sawyer to follow him into the jungle to kill Ben. Locke said that he had infiltrated the Others. They made their way to the Black Rock slave ship. A guy is there with a burlap sack over his head. Locke trapped Sawyer in with him. Well it isn't Ben at all. Surprise, surprise. It's Locke's Dad. Well Sawyer ended up choking him to death with a chain after he discovered the guy is the one that is responsible for his parents' death. See, Locke's father is a con man and conned Sawyer's family. He banged the wife and she gave him all their money to escape from her crappy life. The father found out, killed the mom, and turned the gun on himself. Little boy Sawyer wrote his feelings in a note that he made dead man walking read. How poignant. After Sawyer killed him, Locke let Sawyer out and thanked him. Before Locke's dad croaked, he confirmed Naomi's story that Oceanic 815 flight was found and everyone was dead.

Secondary Storyline
• We found out that Parachutina's name is Naomi. The campers brought her back to the beach where they are secretly nursing her back to health to ensure their rescue. She confirmed that she was searching for Desmond on contract from Penny to find him. Ah, true love. Desmond established that he, Charlie, Hurley, and Jin don't trust Jack anymore since he's disappeared and is back with an alliance with Juliet. Wipe that smirk off your face, bitch!
• But these boys needed some help, so they enlisted Sayid who they do trust. In his conversation with Naomi, we heard about how the coordinates she had been given to locate Desmond were in the middel of the ocean and thought it was a fools errand. It wasn't until she was practically on top of the island that she could see it...then the helicopter's gauges went crazy and she crashed. She has a snazzy satellite phone to call her launch boat but it doesn't work because of the magnetics. We know it's hopeless when Sayid can't even fix it.
• So Sayid spilled the beans about Naomi to Kate, who promptly went and told Jack. After she told him that no one trusts him, he got pissed and trotted off to get to the bottom of things. But before he did, Juliet said they should tell Kate about their own secret. But Jack isn't up for any quid pro quo on the secret telling. At least not now.

Elsewhere on the Island
• Still no sign of old smokey. What is the smoke monster? Where is it? What motivates it?
• With the downing of Naomi's helicopter and the fact that her navigation dials when crazy as she approached the island (magnetics), now we know why they came and went from the island on little boats and a submarine.

Final Scenes
• Locke told Sawyer that Juliet is a spy and they are going to steal away with the pregnant Losties in due time. He gave him the recording that Juliet made about Sun's pregnancy as proof.
• Locke headed off to find The Others with his dead dad strapped to his back.

Did I miss anything?

Could it be that they are all in a psyche ward-- maybe in a prison? -- And the institution is experimenting on the inmates with some kind of hypnosis or induced coma or some kind of virtual reality thingy? It seems they are all in some kind of psychoanalysis. Is there something significant that happens after the black smoke? Maybe the black smoke is a drug.

I thought they might have been clones too. Didn't someone (Naomi?) say everyone was found dead at the bottom of the ocean?

I'm not sure about this...but I thought that was Naomi back in the tent city camp with John? I think she's part of the Others' con.
