You gotta give credit to the men and women who, in the face of a crisis, run towards the danger instead of away.
A couple of weeks ago I was at the corner where the recent steam pipe burst when I was in NYC for Pride weekend. I stayed at 1st and 44th and went on a circuitous route one day walking to Grand Central so I could get a good photo of the Chrysler Building.

Anytime I read about the NYC responders who, among other things, were integral to a city response to Sept/11, I'm suddenly aware of many of my co workers. Paramedics who gave their time and skill to assist in that event, and many of whom are having significant health concerns currently, because of it.
