Don't be too alarmed. This is an old pic but the look on her face is a pretty accurate depiction of how she feels. This is her favorite laying position — she loves to straddle things. This is out in the garden but I've seen her draped over a tree branch in the back field, too. She also likes to straddle the arms of sofas and chairs, and even my leg where she faces away from me and hangs her legs on either side so I can pet and scratch her.
She's not feeling well because she has an infected absess on her chest. It started about ten days ago, shortly after she brought home a dead baby bunny (the cause?) and dropped it on the front stoop, and it's gotten progressively more swollen. I took her to the vet on Friday and she got a shot of antibiotics and I have to give her a pill a day. Last week, she disappeared for three days when she wasn't feeling good but now she's been here everyday since her doctor visit.
Something that I think is unusual is that all my cats love to go for rides in the car. This one will hiss and growl when you pick her up (when she doesn't want), but get her in the car, and she's on my lap purring away and having a grand old time! Same way for my current cat from CA. The previous cat I had in California thought of car rides as a treat. He'd have his back feet on the passenters seat and his front paws on the dashboard and just love watching the world go by!
Rabies Alert: Little girl got a rabies vaccination during her Friday appointment. On the front page of Saturday's paper was a story about a kitten that was rabid and bit someone trying to help it. It all happened just two miles down the road and they suspect the kitten was feral or a semi-feral farm cat. The poor man who got bit is now on anti-rabies shots. A prime example of "let no good deed go unpunished." The moral is to make sure your pets' shots are up-to-date since this stuff is around!

Little Girl Is Sick

What we won't do for our pets. A couple of months ago, my own four-legged child couldn't keep her food down - puked everything up.
A quick visit to the vet and $260.00 later, I was told she had a stomach virus (duh) oh and here's her shots, heartworm meds and license paperwork. Oh and would you like to buy our expensive, easy-to-digest prescription dog food?
Prescription dog food - feh. When she was recooperating, I made her her meals - boiled chicken, rice and low-fat cottage cheese. She still gets it too - I don't trust commercial dog food anymore.
She's fine now, offering comfort to my housemate by sleeping at the end of his bed every night, since his partner has been in the hospital.
My baby doesn't get to leave the house. Mostly, because we live in the middle of Boston and I would be terrified she could become a road pizza. Also there are raccoons and 'possums around. (Yes, in downtown Boston) I hope your little girl is feeling better soon.
Awwww ... poor kitty. I hate it when my animals are sick and grumpy; it ruins my whole day/week/month/whatever.
Get better Little Girl!
