My dieting weakness comes in the middle of the night. I wake up, stumble to the kitchen, and pig out. I fool myself into believing I must be craving some nutrient (like marshmallow) so I have to feed the urge in order to keep my body healthy.
The solution has been to diet-proof the cupboards. At the same time, I'm trying to help my mother gain weight. What's a body to do? Well I bought coconut cookies and pecan praline ice cream. Both fattening things that she likes but I'll steer clear of even on a midnight raid.
Last night, after a day of around 500 calories and a long walk, I ate an entire box of Chicken in a Biskit crackers. Last week, it was a bag of Bugles. I guess I gotta stop buying salty snacks, too. Damn.

With the colder weather, my body is trying to go into 'hybernation mode'. I will go through half a box of Keebler Fudge Sticks in one sitting.
Alright, the Skinny Bitch who used to be a Fat Bitch and who on occasion is boinking a nutritionist is going to give you some advice that won't kill you:
What the hell are you doing on a 500 calorie a day diet? Do you want your renal system to shut down? You're smarter than that. Stop it.
You need to eat nutrient dense foods, i.e. soy products, nuts, legumes, poultry (try and stay away from the pig and cow)limit high fat cheeses and processed foods. Even the so-called "healthy" processed meals are high in sugar, fillers, sodium and the servings are way to small, even for a non-dieter person. Higher protein, the right carbos and lots of fluids.
With the exception of fruits, vegetables, juices and diet sodas (not highly recommended - but stick to the Splenda sweetened if you must) dried fruits and nuts, never have anything in your house that doesn't need to be prepared sans the microwave. You're less like to snack at 3 am if you have to cook. Also, make more than you need for one meal - that way if you do have your 3 AM cravings, you can at least have something nutrious YOU'VE cooked instead of pre-packaged garbage.
Keep your mother's weight gaining food in a separate cabinet - and try to choose foods that she, and ONLY SHE likes (which you seem to have done), but then you pigged out on fat-laden crackers that YOU liked.
Take a multi-vitamen for men over a certain age (ahem)every day without fail
Also go get a big jar of Blue-Green Algae capsules - it's nutrient dense and easily absorbed.
Also, keep a case of Ensure around - it's nutritionally balanced, not particularly vile tasting, and will help with your early morning craving and also will help mom nutritionally as well.
I know it difficult to keep weight off this time of year. The seasonal change tells our bodies to store and not use our fat. I'm not immune to it either.
But have faith my brother - if things get really bad for you - I'll send PAP your way. Who will not only give you great advice on diet and exercise, but will DRIVE the point home. Repeatedly.
I believe we all instinctually eat more at this time of year. Have you thought of ridding your house of junk? Like carrot sticks instead of marshmallows?
I've been following this fat free diet. It takes a LOT of discipline, but it works. All I eat are gummi bears, jelly beans and candy corn.
Craving sweet, eat an apple, grapes, even a carrot.
Better yet, consider that your body needs calories to run your brain, so cutting calories is cheating your brain.
