Happy Blogiversary Baby, Got You On My Mind

It's been a year since I started this blog. At times it seems hard to believe, other times it seems like I've been at it for five years.

I've really enjoyed the experience — more than I thought I would. It has gotten easier once I got into the groove, and while I've had some periods where I didn't feel like it, I pushed on and have only missed posting on a few days. I'm not bored with it yet so I look forward to continuing on.

It's given me an outlet from a less-than-optimal living situation; a way to connect with others in a more substantial way that a silent chat room on gay.com. Friends here in Albany started their blogs shortly after I did; I've met great folks in NYC; and now I'm looking forward to a weekend in Boston to meet even more bloggers there.

A side benefit is that all of this reading and writing has helped to keep my writing skills up to snuff. While I mostly do design and layout now, there's no telling when a client will ask me to write an ad, white paper, or press release.

As for the direction of the blog, I'm pretty happy with it. After a year, I decided it was time to change the blog template. What I thought was a great choice in the beginning has grown a bit tiresome. Unfortunately, I'm a bit constrained with this template. It is the Blogger "Rounders" format which I really like. But this format includes GIF files that create the rounded effect that need to match the background. So if you change the background color, the rounded corners stay the same color that they were and look bad. So I'm kinda locked in unless I were to change the template entirely...but there isn't another that I like better. So I'm stuck for now. We'll see if I can think of ways to get more creative in the design.
