Two Firsts Today

I saw the first car with an HRC logo sticker on it this afternoon when I ran out to the post office. That is, aside from my mother's car which is what I drive. I affectionately call it the old lez-mobile since everyone was probably thinking my mom was a lesbian when she used to drive around town. Thing is, she just likes stickers, and I had her added to the HRC mailing list years ago when I was trying to explain "transgender".

Upstate NY is so different from California where you see rainbow flags and HRC stickers all the time — there are also tons of fish and other religious symbols on cars.

And the second of my firsts: I just smelled the smoke of the first wood burning fire of the season wafting out over the neighborhood.

Like the first smell of new mown grass signals the coming of spring, and a glimpse of pale skin the start of summer, the good old smell of wood smoke is truly the start of fall...

Wow, I could really use some General Foods International Coffee all of a sudden.
