The Wall Street Journal: The Interview

Update on the focus group interview I had with The Wall Street Journal.

The gal was a little late after being caught in traffic. She was as she described, but much cuter than I expected.

It was a pretty routine set of questions. What articles do you read? What do you like best/least? What do you want to see more/less of in the paper? Etc. I was asked to go through yesterday's paper and mark all the articles I read in full, those I read in part, headlines I read but not the story, and any graphics I looked at.

We chatted for a bit after the interview and we got on the subject of reading. (We were in a Starbuck's inside a Barnes & Noble so it wasn't a far stretch.) She told me she was a big-time reader and that, because of her Irish descent, she was particularly interested in Irish fantasy stuff like faeries. I told her, "If you're looking for an Irish fairy, you're talking to the right guy!"

I recommended an enchanting movie from years ago called The Secret of Roan Inish. She mentioned that she has a dark complexion that isn't stereotypically Irish. I told her that she was what they call "black Irish" which is what the movie I'd just recommended is all about. It's the story of darling little Fiona (Jeni Courtney), seen here, as she uncovers the Irish legends that abound on the nearby Island of Roan Inish. My interviewer is going to love it!

Roan Inish is such a good movie. I hope she watches it. I still dream about that shoemaker who tells the story of the selky - utterly haunting.
