I Have An Honest To Goodness 8.5 Incher!

I potted up this amaryllis bulb about a week ago. It's already at 8.5" and growing about an inch a day.

About a month ago I bought a red one, a pink one, and a red/white one at Lowe's. I'm not sure which one this is and the other two are showing signs of life but haven't really started to grow yet.

I started buying these as gifts for my father back in the late 80's. They were something simple for me to ship back east and they became a hit with him so I continued doing it every year. Dad was going blind from diabetes and was housebound. These became a highlight of his day. Every morning he would get up and wander out to measure the flowers to determine their progress. They were a nice distraction for over a month that gave him something to do and look forward to.

Now, whenever I see an amaryllis or watch the movie The Music Man, I think of dear ol' Dad.
