USS New York

The USS New York was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center. It is the fifth in a new class of warship — designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there.

The ship's motto? "Never Forget."

"Big Rough steelworkers" Something tells me that's your type! How interesting and cool that they recycled from the WTC.

Like we need more toys for war.

Wow -- I didn't know that. The image of the steelworkers being so affected made me feel like when I hear the National Anthem, even though that's not so popular these days.

This gives me mixed feelings though...

The good news is, there's still enough scrap to make hundreds of missiles.

Oh well, at least there's something else the current Administration is willing to recycle (along with the policies of Senator McCarthy and the staff of Bush Sr.)

Alternate Quip: I approve only if the ship was christened by breaking Rudy Giuliani over the bow.
