**SPOILER ALERT**
I admit that I'm feeling a bit guilty for recommending that Cowbell jump into Lost. I don't think there could be a more complex time to join in the fray.
I skipped last week's post since it was all about Desmond's time travels and any discussion would have been even more confusing than the episode itself. So now we have flashbacks, flashforwards, and time travel. We did see a bit of hints of time travel in episodes past, but I'm having trouble following what's going on and I've been watching from the beginning.
The producers have their sights set on the end game of the series and are packing in a lot of scientific babble so it all makes sense. Watching the repeats on Thursday's at 8 with the special on-screen commentary has been valuable to understanding what is going on. I mean, come on, who would have known that was a bad Enrico Fermi equation on the board? Enrico Fermi, btw, was instrumental in the development of the atom bomb. There must be better ways to say these things are related to the island's electromagnetic field without all the mumbo jumbo.
Here are some of my random thoughts from the past two weeks:
• Clever way to open the episode to make us all think Juliet was potentially an Oceanic 6. The conversation sounded like a flashfoward when it was actually a flashback.
• Poor Desmond, he's really in a bad spot. But isn't he hot when he's all cleaned up?
• In a previous post, I asked how long it would be before Ben got loose. As it turned out, not very long. He must have given Locke something juicy when he revealed who his spy is on the freighter. My guess is Michael although I'm not sure why he would leave Walt unless that was part of the deal he struck when Ben let them go.
• Could the freighter spy be Richard? I'm still waiting to find out if Richard is one of the people from the original crew aboard the Black Rock. Remember how he looked the same in the flashback of Ben as a boy? He was one of the original "others" before Dharma got there. Who knows how old he is?
• Just when I was liking Juliet again, we saw more of her bad side. Sleeping with the married Goodwin (although I understand that because he's a total babe). What I didn't like is that she seemed to have no problem with kidnapping the kids from the tail section and wasn't at all concerned with saving people in a plane crash.
• Did Mr. Widmore learn about the slave ship from that manuscript he bought at auction? Or did he already know there was something about it and that's why he wanted it? He must be tied into Dharma in some way.
• Is Penny evil, too? Or does she just have an evil father?
• How is Ben able to conjure up spirits that can talk to people? He sent the shrink to talk to Juliet, but Jack saw her too. Is she alive or dead, or just an apparition?
• How did the freighter crew know about the Tempest station and that there was lethal gas there?
• Jack and Juliet shared a wonderful kiss. Was Kate watching?
• Juliet is "Ben's"...because she looks just like "her". Who is "her"? His previous fling? We've seen his mother and I don't think she looked like her.
• Juliet said Ben is going to win. What does she know? Does she have inside info? We did see Ben in Sayid's flashforward.
Okay, Losties, let me know your thoughts!

I'm one of those who started watching the series late and don't know the character Michael. I'll have to do a quick internet search.
Did you know about the (fictional) websites : http://thehansofoundation.org/ and www.oceanic-air.com/
I have seen some of those other web sites but I'm not sure I want to invest so much time!
You may know Michael as Walt's father. Walt was kidnapped pretty early on (remember the Others kidnap children since they can't have their own) and Michael struck a deal with Ben that if he brought Jack, Kate, and Sawyer to Ben he'd let Michael and Walt go. When last we saw Michael and Walt, they were headed off the island in a little boat.
Walt appeared as a vision to Locke this season. It was after Ben shot Locke and he fell into the pit with all the dead Dharma bodies.
yeah, dude, I have to tell you ... I seriously tried to watch this. I did 3, maybe even 4 episodes, and I fit right in, because I am LOST. I'm hanging it up. Looks like it could've been good if I'd caught it earlier, but it's bringing on brain funk.
Hello..Just found your blog doing a LOST search..very interesting!
I believe the man on the boat is Michael. I also believe that Penny is good and her father is bad. I think they brought up Walt again this year & Locke spoke about him being "taller" to prepare us for the next time we really see Walt (since the actor hit puberty and grew a foot. LOL). I'm not sure though I'm liking Jack with Juliet, but I sure do like Kate with Sawyer...so I guess Juliet will keep Jack occupied for awhile. Yeah, I was surprised about Juliet having a fling with Goodwin. It is funny because they had to reshoot that scene of them watching the plane break apart. Because last season when they showed it that Harper lady wasn't in it and now she was. That lady freaks me out!!! She is spooky like when she showed up in the jungle. What are those whispers???
moodyblue--
Good point on Walt growing up. Will this tie in to their being in a time bubble where their 90 days on the island is really 4 years off the island?
We've heard those whispers before when something creepy was going to happen. Now I wonder if Ben somehow has control of them. Does he have control of the spirits of all those he's killed?
y / o / y...
I wouldn't put it past Ben to have control over those whispers...wouldn't it be funny if it was speakers set up around the trees...or something weird like that. I'm not sure...but it is weird because they speak about the Red Sox winning and that was current in 2004. Then later on, we see that Jack is still a doctor in his flash-forward and he becomes an addict. We see in Kate's that she has a trial..that Aaron is around 3 or 4 years old..so that makes sense to be in 2008..Right? Plus you see Kate has this big house she came home to. She probably got a settlement from Oceanic and she was able to afford that house because before that she was on the run & didn't have any money. They probably delayed her trial. BUT, that happened before Jack grew his beard after he saw Hurley in the bin..right? Sooo it makes sense because of Aaron's age that it is that many years later. I'm convinced they go back to the island. They leave people there...that is the secret that they are keeping. I bet.
I'm pretty sure Michael is the spy on the freighter as well (mostly since the actor has benn listed in the credits every week yet has not appeared yet...)
I think that Mr. Widmore bought the journal at auction to help locate the Black Rock which in turn would lead him to the island and its magical powers since that is where the ship ended up.
Juliet looks like Annie -- Ben's childhood friend who gave him the carved figures of them.
