WOW! Beautiful pictures buddy. We are enticed loads of birds into the garden at the moment so hoping to have some good pictures soon.
romach--i'm still practicing with the new camera. I was trying to ratchet up the shutter speed but then I wasn't getting enough light. These pics are on auto setting. The little ones don't come around very often, or stay long when they do, so by the time I get the camera up and set, they're gone!
New camera or not.....a hummingbird's wings are moving a zillion mph...so these are Fantastic pics. We do not have the Ruby Throats out here, and being the huge hummingbird fans we are, I loved these. You obviously have feeders up............... They ARE difficult to get pictures of. I remember Rodger quietly standing against the inside wall window for minutes at a time to get some great pics when the first camera was new... They're great to watch.
mark--u r right. When I took these pics, I was sitting on the swing (shown in a previous post) and I have a hummingbird feeder hanging from a trellis about 15' in front of me. I'm shooting hi-res (300 dpi) with a zoom lens so I was able to bring them into Photoshop and crop and resize them without losing any clarity.
These are from early last week. The male appeared this afternoon for the first time that I've seen but I didn't have the camera. The show up about every 3-4 hours. Now I'll have to keep the camera by my side and wait!
The hummingbird is one bird I've never been able to get a photograph of. These pix are awesome!
It sure is nice that she hovered just for you!
Amazing picture! I put up a feeder this year and got a visit within the first 2 hours, but the little guys seem to prefer the next-door neighbor's feeder. They do buzz by and "dive bomb" me on the patio, though, and I guess that counts for something...
