I may be late to the party with figuring this out. In case not, thought I'd pass along this tip.
I was always worried that I was missing comments on past posts. First, I set up moderation, but I didn't like how that worked. Then, in Blogger Dashboard, I set it up to send me comments via email whenever one was left.
I've figured out a better way. I monitor blogs using Google Reader. Now I have subscribed to my own comments RSS feed so they appear as a separate entry in the Reader window.

I was always confused with the way 'blogger' works. I changed to 'Wordpress' as its much easier and free with loads of space and so many facilities.
