Estelle Getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian Sophia on The Golden Girls has died. Getty, who suffered from advanced dementia, was 84.

Oh how sad! I really loved the golden girls.
I had forgotten that she was actually younger than Bea Arthur. The poor dear, it's sad she spent her last years that way.
That reminds me...did you know that Isabel Sanford was 20 years older than Sherman Hemsley?
How sad that Yoda finally died...
Or did she play the role of Gollum?
She will be missed. She was always my favorite Golden Girl. RIP ESTELLE!!
