ECCO Political Affairs Director Jeff LeTourneau (left) took part in an anti-Prop 8 demonstration that caused a ruckus with Registrar Neal Kelley (right) at the Temple Baptist Church polling location in Fullerton, CA.

Jeff is a long-time activist and often finds himself in the center of GLBT/AIDS-related political skirmishes.
His activism and integrity are just a couple of the reasons why we all love him so much. He measures his effectiveness if his story is in the paper "above the fold." I hope it is and that Prop 8 is defeated.
It was this activism that first brought him to my attention. While I led a closeted life, I would read about him in the paper, admiring his openness. His willingness to step out of the shadows and fighting for things that would directly benefit me — yet I was too afraid to do it for myself. His activism inspired me to become and activist myself. As I would read about his antics, I would think, "I'm going to meet him someday." And meet him I did.
We go way back, probably 15 years. For many of those, Friday nights were movie nights when we'd get a bite to eat and hit one of the local cinaplexes. For a while, it would be him, his partner, and me. Then I met someone and we became a foursome (not four-way!). Then they broke up and it was three of us. Then he met someone new and it was four of us again. Then my ex and I broke up and it was back to three of us. But the two of us were always consistent.
After 3.5 years of being away, we are still close. Over the past month, with all the election and No On 8 activity, we talked at least once a day.
Go Jeff! I'm proud to know you and happy to call you my friend!!!

It's been such a contentious run here. While I'm overjoyed about Obama, I find I'm SO sad about Prop 8, 102 in AZ..etc. I know the fight isn't over and we must cling to the hope that equality will prevail. In that hope, I'm so glad there are people like Jeff who help to lead the way...especially here in SoCal, where sometimes it feels very, very lonely to stand on the side of what is right. When you speak to him again..please thank him for me; a little voice in the OC.
