From yesterday on The View:
A raw moment that shows what the Obama victory means to African-Americans. I can empathize but I can never feel their pain. The iron shackles of slavery were cast aside long ago, but their power has lingered. I hope the U.S. has taken a giant leap forward.

I'm so glad Sherri didn't stay undecided. My mother was a beautiful dark-skinned Hawaiian, and though she wasn't African-American, she often told me of the bigotry and bias she and my father, who was caucasian, were up against in their inter-racial marriage. My father's family "disowned" him for marrying her, she had difficulty finding a job in California in the 50's and 60's, etc. My hope is your hope, that the U.S. has taken a giant leap forward. Now if we can just get Californians to see that discrimination of ANY kind is wrong, it would be a joyous thing.
When I hugged my son after the election, that's exactly what I thought -- no limitations on you. You could be President, or anything else yhou want to be. It may not easy, it may not even be considered the "norm" for a long time to come, but it's a possibility now.
It's been 5 days, and I still can't think about it without crying.
