I love Dame Edna! I got a chance to meet her when she was in Vancouver; she did a promotional appearance on a local talk show, and I was one of 130 in the audience.
In person she is huge! Six-two easy... She shook my hand and called me possum.
She's slurring her words and seems unfocused...too many drinks in the green room!
BTW, I never found Hugh Laurie attractive until I saw this clip. Now I've put him in the Hunk-A-Lot queue!
First...I totally agree about Hugh Laurie. He really is attractive. I never really noticed it before. I never watched House. Funny thing is - I must have been living under a rock because I didn't know he was British. LOL!
Dame Edna...what can I say about her? She is hysterical. Her & Jon Bon Jovi were the only reasons why I watched Ally McBeal.
I guess because I was watching Hugh on 'Fry and Laurie' in the Eighties I've always found him quite cute, if not hunky. The grizzled thing they make him do on 'House' is a bit off-putting - unless you're into that sort of thing!
Also, the whole of Dame Edna's shtick - even the slurring thing - is all part of the act. Although I think Barry Humphries does enjoy a tipple now and then.
I like Dame Edna a lot also. She has done lots of television over here in the UK and each show was a scream.
My favourite moment on one of her UK shows was when Rolf Harris gave her a copy of his book, and she looked at him so sweetly and said "Thank you. I won't waste a minute reading it." The delay on the crowd reaction was a full five seconds... Then hilarity didn't just ensue it erupted!
She's so popular in the UK her "autobiography" was listed on the non-fiction list.
