Cigarette Commercials

The subject of cigarette commercials came up on my Alzheimer's Moments blog the other day.

Are you old enough to remember when cigarettes were advertised on television? They were very effective since I can sing the jingles decades later.

Here's a clip of a Virginia Slims commercial. My mom had a curly blonde wig like the lady at the end of the ad. Wigs were popular in the late 60's.

One of the commenters on the other post noted how the cigarette company (and ad company Ogilvy and Mather) linked women's lib to smoking. Interesting, too, that the song is sung by men.

Very compelling! Now pardon me while I go have a smoke!
