Fantasia To Join The Color Purple

Fantasia Barrino is Broadway bound.

She will step into the role of Celie in The Color Purple on April 10, becoming the first American Idol winner on Broadway. The show marked its 500th performance on Broadway on February 13th. Until now, I really had no desire to see the show but I'm definitely interested now. I HEART FANTASIA!

Fantasia won American Idol in the show's third season, and in the final round defeated Diana DeGarmo, who has subsequently appeared in Hairspray. Other AI notables to appear on the New York stage include Constantine Maroulis (The Wedding Singer, Jacques Brel) and Frenchie Davis (Rent).

Fantasia has released two solo albums, "Free Yourself" in 2004 and "Fantasia" in December 2006. In my humble opinion, she's the best singer to ever come out of American Idol, but her producers have made song choices that have sunk her music career. Fantasia, you have an awesome voice and style, now ditch the music folks around you and find a better team.
