From an article in today's Wall Street Journal titled "Solar Firms Wait on Tax Credit":
The House of Representatives passed legislation in May to extend the solar-investment tax credit through 2014. A bill pending in the Senate includes an 8-year extension, through 2016. Both bills would raise the cap on the residential tax credit to $4,000 from $2,000 per year.So to recap the GOP position on the economy and energy independence:
The solar tax credits are widely supported, but Senate Republicans have blocked the broader tax bill because they object to Democrats' use of loophole-closers and tax increases to offset the cost of tax incentives for renewable energy and other tax cuts.
• Say you support energy independence but block legislation aimed at achieving it
• Say you support alternative energy but block legislation that promotes it
• Say you want to create jobs but block legislation that provides high paying green jobs
• Say you are concerned about global warming but block legislation for zero-emission energy
• Say you are fiscally responsible but block pay-as-you-go legislation because tax cuts matter but deficits don't
• Say you are against taxes but block legislation providing middle class tax breaks that provide long-term reduction in energy bills
Where is John McCain?

In defense of John McCain, it can't be easy for him, trying to effectively communicate his positions to the American people while his head is up his ass. Plus, he's very busy plotting the assassination of Barack Obama.
Here's a handy guide to understanding the Republicans: everything they say is a lie. If they tell you the sky is blue, get your eyes checked, because it's probably green. Fortunately, they only lie when they're awake, so at least there's some reprieve in course of a day.
In no way will they support renewable energy until there's more money in it for them than there currently is in supporting oil.
