First Church of Albany

This is the historic First Church In Albany, NY. The ministry was started in 1642 (yes, 1642!) and is the second oldest congregation in New York State. The Albany area was settled by the Dutch and this was started as part of the Reformed Dutch Church. The building you see here was erected between 1798-1810 on North Pearl Street.

A plaque on site reads: "That ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of GOD; and that believing, ye might have life through his name. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise."

Considering that I'm an agnostic, my fascination with churches seems odd. I find their architecture beautiful. I wish they were grocery stores, restaurants, or gas stations so I could get some use out of them instead of just driving by!
