"Oh, how the mighty have fallen!"
After years of beating everyone over the heads with their holier-than-thou "family values" club, the chickens have come home to roost. Yes, chicken hawk Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) is the perfect allegory for all those hypocrites crowing from the perch of the Republican party. [Note to readers: I will continue to put the "(R-FL)" after Foley's name since Fox News has incorrectly insisted he's a Democrat. So much for fact checking, but hey, it's Fox!]
Americans reveled in the controversial ironies that Rush Limbaugh, crusader of strict law and order, was addicted to Oxycontin and illegally acquired it; and Bill O'Reilly, who made millions on the Clinton/Lewinsky affair, quietly settling a case that involved the unrequited overtures of passion that he lavished on a former business associate.
Remember the scandals that surrounded Kathy Lee Gifford? Production of clothing that carried her name was supposedly outsourced to a company that ran sweat shops using child labor. Guess what? Almost all the clothes we buy today, no matter what you tell yourself, are made under crappy conditions overseas. China, Pakistan, and Vietnam don't have an OSHA, unions, or a watchdog press.
And who could forget the trouble brought into her marriage when her bozo husband Frank was duped into sleeping with a cheap slut? Millions of men cheat on their wives but Frank was stupid enough to fall prey to a setup that sent the media into a 24/7 frenzy.
So why did Kathy Lee Gifford (and Rush and Bill) take such heat? Because they held themselves up as particularly religious people with a perfect life and, my dear readers, we just love it when the self-righteous get taken down a peg or two. If you continually tell the world you're better than they are, it shouldn't be any surprise that they kick you when you're down — that's the American way.

I happen to love Kathy Lee Gifford. Yup, and I'm brave enough to admit it. In the later years of his life, my father was going blind from years of retinal bleeding as a result of diabetes. Every morning, he would wake up and watch Live With Regis and Kathy Lee. He loved them both and he thought it was great when she'd giggle with her trademark laugh. So I thank her for bringing comfort and happiness into his life and her other fans.
