Yesterday was a quick trip down to NYC and back home today. The excursion was to see A Chorus Line at 8. [Photo: Empire State Building rises above Bryant Park.]
It is less expensive to drive down to Poughkeepsie and take the MTA instead of the full trip from Albany-Rensselaer on Amtrak. Total time room to room was 4 hours and 10 minutes with a cost of $19.45 + gas. Here's the breakdown.
Left house (by car): 3:05
Picked up ticket at Albany Toll Booth for I-87 South: 3:24
Averaged 75 mph on thruway
Paid $2.60 toll exiting I-87 at Poughkeepsie: 4:20
Paid $1 toll to cross Mid-Hudson Bridge (toll is Eastbound only): 4:31
Arrived at Poughkeepsie Station: 4:40
Paid $12.75 for one-way ticket to Grand Central (compared to $40 on Amtrak to Penn Station; $64 from Albany): 4:45
Paid $2.50 for parking inside terminal at top of platform: 4:45
On train: 4:50
Train departed Poughkeepsie: 5:00
Train arrived Grand Central Station: 6:38
No time to stop and watch the Kaleidoscope Light Show in the main terminal so I was quickly out on the street. (I did watch it on my way home.)
Walked (a long way) to Mayfair Hotel at 49th between Broadway and 8th...arrived hotel: 7:07
In room: 7:15
Checked in, changed clothes, out the door: 7:25
Arrived at Schoenfeld Theatre: 7:35
Arrived at seat: 7:45

No intermission, show ended: 10:10
Stopped for pizza: 10:25
Back in room, eating pizza in bed and watching CNN: 10:40
Asleep by: 11:15
What a day!
I will review the hotel, theater, and show in separate posts.

You suck! That is so unfair! ;)
I heart NY.
We went to "Putnam County Spelling Bee" last night at the Performing Arts Theater in Costa Mesa. It was hilarious.
Mary
I LOVED Spelling Bee!
Too bad you weren't here Friday as I had an extra ticket I couldn't GIVE away!
