I included this particular clip because it has a bit of background put on the front end that explains a bit about the Apple ad that was modified to create this version. I can't believe it has been 23 years since it appeared.
• The ad only ran (paid) once on television...during the 1984 Super Bowl. I had the distinct pleasure of working with the man that was the advertising genius behind this incredible decision.
• This ad spawned the one-shot big bucks Super Bowl ad frenzies we see today.
• The ad is based on George Orwell's book 1984.
• 1984 is where the term "Big Brother" comes from.
• The ad in 1984 introduced the Macintosh computer. Yes, Macophiles, there was a world before Mac.
• The parody ad in 2007 was created on a Macintosh.
Almost as ingenious is the viral marketing power that this clip generated on YouTube with over 1.5 million views and counting. Guerrilla politics at its cleverest. The mystery creator was revealed as Philip de Vellis — a Democratic operative who worked for a digital consulting firm with ties to rival Sen. Barack Obama. He has resigned his position with the company.
