The Snow's First Victim

I made a quick run to the grocery store as most everyone in the area does before a snowstorm. At 1:30, the snow was just a dusting and blowing in swirls off of the road but it already had claimed its first victim on the Collar City Bridge seen here in better weather. It was a single car accident and it looked like they crashed into the center divider. Several police cars and an ambulance were on the scene.

I found this photo among many Great Troy Photos on a site associated with Russell Sage College. The Collar City Bridge spans the Hudson River and is so named because Troy is the Collar City (it is also officially know as the Home of Uncle "I Want You" Sam). The shirt collar was invented in the 1800's at Cluett Peabody whose former building can be seen in the picture to the right. Developers announced this week that they are going to develop the waterfront between the Cluett Building and the bridge with an upscale hotel (to service Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Russell Sage College); office space; entertainment; and residential.
