TV Wednesday: American Idol

** SPOILER ALERT FOR ENTIRE POST **

I'm moving my American Idol recaps up a day so I can post my reviews and predictions on who will move forward before the results shows air on Wednesday nights. Lost recaps will stay on Thursday and I'll move Heroes recaps to Tuesday. Ha! A recap schedule makes this whole thing seem so official. I'm taking myself waaaaaay too seriously!

Let's start with last week's AI elimination show. Carrie Underwood continued to show why she won her season of Idol. She has so much experience under her belt now that she takes the stage with confidence and puts down a great performance every time.

Sanjaya found himself still in the mix. I predicted last week that he may be this season's John Stevens and will probably make it down to seventh or eigth place. And Antonella finally didn't make the cut.

Jared, while it was probably a bit early for him to go, wasn't going to be the winner so his days were numbered. However, Sabrina Sloan was a surprise for me. Two weeks ago, I labeled her my favorite of the night and thought she did a great job last week. I'm sorry to see her go.

That puts me at only 50% on my predictions again last week. In past seasons I've been better than this!

Now for this week's show:

The Final 12
Jordin Sparks (pictured) — Great. Radio quality.
Brandon Rogers — My favorite last week. His voice squeaked early and he giggled when he forgot the words. Maybe his Elvis swivel-hips dancing action caused some memory loss. He did go first so I'm sure nerves played a part. I enjoyed his performance despite Simon savaging him.
Melinda Doolittle — Really good with a song from The Wiz. Projection, projection, projection. It seemed like a Broadway performance where she just filled the venue with her voice. Paula started her "you moved me" waterworks. She's moving on a rollercoaster all her own.
Chris Sligh — Okay. Started rough. I didn't enjoy the arrangement.
Gina Glockson — Similar to last week.
Sanjaya Malakar — I think he did quite a bit better than last week but still not up to snuff.
Haley Scarnato — Same as last week...I thought she was really good (albeit forgetting the words); I definitely think she was better than what the judges said.
Phil Stacey — Wow! Uncle Fester had a big voice tonight. His best performance I've seen.
LaKisha Jones — Pretty good. The live audience and judges liked it better than I did.
Blake Lewis — Previously my favorite, I thought he was pretty bad this week.
Stephanie Edwards — She's middle of the road for me.
Chris Richardson — Voice sounded shaky from nerves. Sing-songy. Still has that Timberlake-alike look and sound. Pretty good.

Side note: Ryan shouldn't have recommended that Haley drink Coke, instead of water before a performance, even if they are the show's sponsor. Before performing or speaking, don't dring carbonated beverages (burping) or milk (phlegm).

My Predictions For This Week
Best — Jordin Sparks
Worst — Sanjaya Malakar
Out — Chris Sligh

Past Results
Out 3/8/7 — Jared Cotter, Sundance Head, Antonella Barba, Sabrina Sloan
Out 3/1/7 — Nick Pedro, A.J. Tabaldo, Alaina Alexander, Leslie Hunt
Out 2/22/7 — Rudy Cardenas, Paul Kim, Amy Krebs, Nicole Tranquillo

Oh, we're going to have a lot of fun comparing Idol notes! I agree with your comments for the most part, but don't share your love for Brandon. I predict he will go. I would hate to see Chris Sligh go because he has the best voice of the boys, but unfortunately doesn't have the "total package" that Chris R and Blake have. (get it--package. Woof!)
Another reason not to drink coke before singing--it has cafeine which dries you out.

:)

I'm doing these reviews as the performances happen so I commit to my opinion before the judges weigh in.

I think that Chris should stay this week, too, but I predict he's going to go. He isn't the Idol so he's gonna go sooner or later.

I updated my post to have another category..."Worst", since who I predict will get the least votes isn't necessarily who I think was the worst.

We'll see tonight!

Melinda is so Broadway. I kind of eliminate her from the competition because she is already a star. I wish she would just cut the "you really love me?" crap and be more confident as we are seeing with LaKisha--Another star.

Jordan did great.

And I totally got Blake's 70's/today vibe though his voice can do so much more.

So there you have it. Those are my pix to the end.

Goodbye Sanjaya and Haley.
