New York Assembly Passes Marriage Equality

Legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in New York, sponsored by the openly gay brother of entertainer Rosie O'Donnell and supported by Gov. Eliot Spitzer, was approved 85-61 by the New York state Assembly. The bill is not expected to be acted on any time soon in the Republican-led state Senate.

New Yorkers are split over the marriage equality issues. A statewide poll found 35% of registered voters supported marriage equality, while another 35% supported civil unions but not marriage, and 22% of voters said there should be no legal recognition of same-sex unions.

Grrr ... stupid Republicans.

Sorry, that was prejudicial, but c'mon ... one day, we'll look back on this time and be ashamed, not unlike the way we view segregation today.

Funny how all those "let it come to a vote" people protesting over in Massachusetts are mysteriously silent when it comes to the NY Senate.
