Who is the genius that originally came up with the order in which they put the flavors of neopolitan ice cream into the carton? Our family has a tradition of buying neopolitan to go with cake at birthday celebrations. I suppose it is so that there's more variety, or for those that like a little of all three. I'm left with the task of eating the remainder after they leave.
[Sidebar: Have you ever tasted freeze dried ice cream? It taste surprising like "real" ice cream and becomes really creamy when you put it in your mouth.]
Newsflash from my taste buds: Strawberry and Chocolate ice cream DON'T GO TOGETHER! (Chocolate ice cream with real strawberries would be tolerable!)
Why oh why do they put it in the carton as Strawberry-Chocolate-Vanilla? Invariably, when you just want a single flavor of strawberry or chocolate, one contaminates the other!
I say the order should be Strawberry-Vanilla-Chocolate since vanilla gets along nicely with both its neighbors.
That is all.

Because I have this thing about mixing my food together, I totally get your feelings about neopolitan ice cream and the order of flavors. On the other hand, neopolitan ice cream completely freaks me out and I won't eat it anyway.
I hadn't put much thought into the order of neopolitan ice cream but I think you're on to something. Vanilla is neutral and should be placed in the middle. We would serve neopolitan with birthday cake too but nobody got a choice as to what they wanted. My mom would open the container and slice it, yes slice it, so you got some of each. I like the technique as it's equal and all but if you didn't like a flavor you were SOL. LOL
I must be weird! I like the chocolate strawberry combo. Yet one more failing on my part. (sigh)
Man - you have too much time on your hands to think about these things.
