Douche Bag Of The Week: Ann Coulter

She's in the news again and she's been a douche bag for a long, very long time. This time she's after the Jews. Part of me just wants to ignore her, but her right to free speech needs to be combatted with more free speech. To let her opinions stand without repudiation would be, at least in my mind, a bit of tacit approval.

I'm loathe to compare anyone to Hitler and the Nazis, and I think labeling folks as such is an exaggeration and I generally discount the argument of the accuser when they do it. Frankly, comparing anyone "up" to the likes of Hitler only does a disservice to the level of atrocity and millions murdered at the hands of his extermination machine.

Now, I'm not calling Douche Coulter a Nazi or Hitler, but her argument that Jews need to be perfected implies that they are somehow "less than," and that is the path that lead to the Holocaust. First it was the mentally and physically disabled, and then the Nazis moved on to the Jews because they were considered inferior.

Eric over at Secrets of the Red Seven recently posted about his misgivings of being friends with someone who voted for and/or supports President Bush. I would expand that, not being able to associate with anyone who thinks that Coulter, Sean Hannity, or Rush Limbaugh are in any way redeemable human beings. In fact, I was very close to an aunt and uncle, but had to stop visiting them when they declared that Rush Limbaugh was their hero. I chose, and still choose, not to associate with them. How sad.

From CNN.com:

Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004. "People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America."

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think — we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.
So this week's Douche Bag of the Week is no stranger to idiocy. She seems very educated, but when you read what she says, you have to wonder where these ideas are incubated. I've also come to the conclusion that even "smart" people can be crazy.

I pulled these quotes from Wikipedia:

On 9/11 victim's wives:

These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them. ... I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much ... the Democrat ratpack gals endorsed John Kerry for president ... cutting campaign commercials... how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy.

On Islam, Arabs, and terrorism:

Airports scrupulously apply the same laughably ineffective airport harassment to Suzy Chapstick as to Muslim hijackers. It is preposterous to assume every passenger is a potential crazed homicidal maniac. We know who the homicidal maniacs are. They are the ones cheering and dancing right now. We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war.

and

If only we could get Muslims to boycott all airlines, we could dispense with airport security altogether. When asked in another interview what Muslims would do for travel, she responded, They could use flying carpets.

and

Referring to the prospect of a nuclear-equipped Iran, What if they start having one of these bipolar episodes with nuclear weapons? I think our motto should be, post-9-11: raghead talks tough, raghead faces consequences.

and

...I believe our motto should be after 9/11: Jihad monkey talks tough; jihad monkey takes the consequences. Sorry, I realize that's offensive. How about 'camel jockey'? What? Now what'd I say? Boy, you tent merchants sure are touchy. Grow up, would you?

On Presidential candidate Senator John Edwards:

She used the term "faggot" in reference to presidential candidate John Edwards in an allusion to Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's use of the word and his subsequent counseling: I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I'm - so, kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards, so I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions.

For all of this, and more, Coulter is by far Douche Bag of the Week.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Because of the so called Main Stream Media cares more about the bottom line, than speaking truth to power, bigotry has now been mainstreamed and legitimized. Sad, but true.

A total douche bag. I know she's TRYING to be funny, but please God, it's NOT WORKING -- everything that comes out of her mouth is just vile and sick.

Red--In some of these cases, I think she tries hard to be shocking on purpose. I saw the interview clip with Deutsch and his interview on Today and I don't think she was kidding and I don't think he thought she was kidding either. It's hard to tell where her need to provoke ends and her krazy begins!

As Deutsch put it, if she isn't shocking, does anyone even know she exists? If we ignore her, will she go away? I wrestled with whether giving her any attention here (albeit in my little blog universe) only plays into the problem.

Eventually she'll start to alien the Right and that'll be that.

What we have here is our "Douchebag of the Year".
