What Do You Do For Back Pain Relief?

As I mentioned, I had terrible back pain and spasms over the weekend. I took some Aleve at the time. After I got home, I started taking Advil. My pain is subsiding, but I'm not sure that is because of time and rest, or the change in pills.

Take the new poll in the sidebar. What is the first thing you do to help an aching back?

I've closed the "When you get off the freeway, do you take the...?" poll. The results were 57% in favor of "X-it" while 43% of you drive me crazy by taking the "Eggs-It"!

I hate to brag (he said, preparing to brag) but I don't get a bad back anymore. I started exercising, and it went away.

But I used to stand under the hottest shower I could stand and gradually stretch it out. Now I do posture exercises (standing as flat against a wall as I can for as long as I can) and stretch at the first sign of any twinge.

Not much help to you after the fact, but more as a preparation for next time.

MSM: In defense of YOY, he did the leaves in his yard for three days. Exercise or no, repetitive motion is going to make you sore. Much like masturbation, but less fun.

I had chronic lower back pain, off and on, for years. Then I bought a sleep number bed. Oh. My. God. I love my sleep number bed.

I'd go with alternating heat AND cold on the area. If you are still in moderate or more pain, you could try OTC Robaxacet or Roobaxasil. (with Tylenol and ASA respectively). Keep in mind they may make you slightly drowsy, so you'll want to adjust your activities accordingly.

Stretching from time-to-time during the repetitive action also helps.

I've always resorted to Advil and stuff like that only as a last resort, since they treat symptoms, not the underlying condition.

Back Pain is a pain in my… well… back!
I was hit by a car a few years ago and since then I have suffered a lot of lower back pain and back ache! I was on strong painkillers for awhile but then I was getting addicted to them so had to drop them before it got too bad. That was about a year ago now and since then I have been looking for alternate ways of relieving the pain and aching until a month ago I was struggling to find anything that helped but I managed to get hold of some Cheap Relyon Beds and I finally got a good nights sleep! It was great!
However!
Upon waking from my beautiful bed the relief only lasted until I got to work then the suffering began once more.
Can anyone give me any advice to ease my pain?
