In the past 24 hours, I have struggled with the trait that I dislike most in others. That being hypocrisy.
For those of you that have been living under a rock the last 24 hours, my forced introspection has come from the whole NY Governor Spitzer whore-gate, where the former NY Attorney General who prosecuted prostitution rings was discovered to be banging them. And if you believe the gossip, up the ass without a condom.
When he was elected Governor in 2006, he had 66% of the popular vote. Everyone had high hopes and he got on the pro-Marriage Equality bandwagon right from the start. Then it was downhill with scandal after scandal. Then he wanted to give official drivers' licenses to illegals. Last week, before the latest news broke, his approval rating was down in the low 30%.
I found myself holding back on condemning him. Why? His political philosophy is the same as mine. If a right winger had been caught doing this, I would be all over it, crying "hypocrite, he's gotta go!"
Now Mr. Clean ain't so clean after all. He's a hypocrite, and if I let it slide, so am I.
Holding myself accountable, I hereby declare, "Eliot, you're a hypocrite, and you gotta go."

I'm from the Garden State where Jim McGreevy resigned...yes, I agree with you..Eliot should definetely do the 'honorable' thing and resign. Actually, I don't think he has much of a choice. I feel badly for his wife and all the people who supported him in the State.
A hypocrite is a hypocrite, no matter what. If, for instance, he'd always had a pro-prostitution stance that would be another matter.
So yeah, condemn away.
(Gee, now I wish I'd have posted that piece on my blog about him last year like I wanted to. After I criticized Gavin Newsom for having an affair I got such a negative reaction I held back on discussing Spitzer's abrasive manner.)
I SO don't get why this is a big deal. Other than the 'prostitution is illegal' thing.
Sex seems to create such a row in American politics. Who the fuck really CARES who the guy is screwing, as long as it isn't the taxpayers??
This was sad news to be sure. I, too, had high hopes for Spitzer. I didn't even think his idea of giving drivers licenses to illegals was that bad (it's a way to keep track of them and keep the roads safe at the same time.) Even Hillary was in favor of it until the polls came out against it, then she changed her tune. Big surprise.
That said, it's a shame that someone should have to resign under these circumstances while a man who leads us into war based on a lie at the cost of 4000 American lives gets to keep his job.
And go away he did.
I'd let him do me up the ass...
