Hospitalizations: Dancing With The Stars and American Idol

Popular personalities head to the hospital after their shows:

Dancing With The Stars
Professional dancer Derek Hough survived elimination with celebrity partner Shannon Elizabeth, however his status for the remainder of the competition is apparently questionable due to an injury he suffered prior to last night's live sixth-season results show broadcast.

Hough injured his neck while rehearsing a group number with sister Julianne and another dancer Mark Ballas. "He hurt his neck in rehearsals for the Kyle Minogue number and went to the hospital," Elizabeth told OK!. "He popped something. He has to be on painkillers. They say he's going to be okay but it's going to take some time to heal."

"We've got a more contemporary number this week for Kylie Minogue. And we have a move where our arms kind of come down and we throw the head back. As he threw his head back he cracked his neck," Ballas told KABC-TV. "It bothered him immediately, so we stopped. He walked off the floor." Ballas added Derek was "immediately put in a neck brace to hold it stable" before he was taken to the hospital to have it checked."

"Luckily, there was no vertebra, disk, or spinal damage," Ballas said. "It's just a sprained muscle in the back."

While initial reports claimed Derek was expected to be fine for next Monday night's performance episode broadcast — it's uncertain if that's still the case, and Elizabeth opined that she now may be in need of a new professional partner. One possible replacement for Derek is Jonathan Roberts, who was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars sixth-season with celebrity partner Monica Seles following the first round of performances.

American Idol
David Cook wowed the audience and then gave them a scare, as the American Idol seventh-season finalist was taken to the hospital following last night's live performance episode broadcast.

The 25-year-old was hospitalized when he experienced heart palpitations. Cook was subsequently treated for high blood pressure and released back to the Idol apartments.

Cook wasn't feeling well throughout the day and his condition worsened following his rendition of Dolly Parton's "Little Sparrow" during the live performance episode broadcast.

He was being taken to the hospital where he was treated by a private doctor who gave him medication to lower his blood pressure. An Idol executive said that Cook was "completely stressed out" because his cancer-stricken brother suffered a setback within the last week.

In addition, Cook apparently collapsed prior to a performance earlier in the season and said he was unable to perform before subsequently taking the stage at the last minute.

Thank God my David Cook is OK...phew!

How much do you want to make a bet the performance where he almost didn't go on was before he sang "Hello". Remember there was a delay & then they blamed it on the guitar. I think Jason had to go before him last minute. I bet that was when it happened.
