Hero Of The Week: Greg McKendry

From the shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, comes a hero:

A stranger entered a Unitarian church and opened fire during a children's performance based on the musical "Annie," killing two, including a burly usher hailed as a hero for shielding others from gunfire.

Church members praised Greg McKendry, 60, who died as he attempted to block the gunfire. A church member said that McKendry "stood in the front of the gunman and took the blast to protect the rest of us."

The church promotes progressive social work, including advocacy of women and gay rights. The Knoxville congregation also has provided sanctuary for political refugees, fed the homeless and founded a chapter of the ACLU.
I don't know if I could be so brave.

Greg McKendry is my Hero of the Week.

I've never had a bad experience with a Unitarian; they sure as Heck never picket Pride Day - they're always right in there marching. This man gave his life so that others might live, which is the message of Christianity.

What an amazing act of heroism!
