Apple Picking

Longtime readers know that I go to a local orchard every year to go apple picking. I'll try not to duplicate any of the stories that I told in 2007 and 2006. One thing you'll notice between this post and the others is the difference in photo quality. This year's pics were taken with the new Nikon D80 DSLR I bought last Christmas. The prior two years are with the compact Sony digital I've had for years. I also remembered to bring some paper towels so I could shine up the apples on the trees!

This year, my neighbor's daughter came along with us. She's taking a film making class in college and wanted some footage for a class project. (I've been very supportive of her. She wanted to be a "star" but I kept telling her that there aren't many stars but tons of jobs in television/film/theater behind the scenes.) While we were in the orchard, she interviewed me on her tripod-mounted camcorder and asked why I liked to go picking. I said I loved the apples, but it was more about spending nice quality time with family and friends. I look forward to going all year.

On our way out, the kitchen was a'callin. The place is usually such a zoo we never get to stop and go in. It was mid-week and mid-afternoon so there wasn't anyone else in the place besides us.

I bought a fresh box of cider donuts which is a must-have offering for all of the orchards around here. Then I had a small seedless black raspberry ice cream cone. My neighbors got fudge, pennucci, and maple candy, too.

I spotted some little pumpkins for sale. Autumn is time for pumpkins, and also for colorful gourds and Indian corn.

Thanks for reminding me why Fall is my favorite season. I'm intrigued by "cider donuts;" I think I heard Rachael Ray talk about them once, and they sounded so good!
