Waxing Nostalgic On TV

There have been a lot of posts about television on various sites that I frequent. Yeah, yeah, that's in addition to my bloody Heroes, American Idol, and Lost recaps. Last week, Joe over at Joe.My.God asked readers to list their favorite TV commercials. JP over at Life Is Such A Sweet Insanity writes a lot about his favorite TV theme songs.

I was searching for a clip on YouTube to use for my "Saturday Morning Levity" post this week. I was looking for a scene from Green Acres where Oliver is trying to teach Lisa how to drive a car. She points to the steering column and asks about the "perndull". After some back and forth, we realize that she's talking about the gear indicators "P R N D L" — that's classic!

As happens to me constantly, I got sidetracked and never found the clip for which I was looking. After I found (and watched) the Green Acres theme song, that led me to a site with a massive compilation of television theme songs called MyThemes.tv. Well once I got to that site I waxed nostalgic. I spent two hours listening to theme songs of my favorite shows throughout the years.

I decided to write a few posts about this. I like many of the themes but for different reasons.

Here are my five favorite theme songs, as presented on that site, that I think have outstanding music. By outstanding, I mean I could go to a concert and enjoy an entire evening (extrapolated from these 15 seconds) of that type of music.

Five Favorite Themes: Outstanding Music
#5: Providence
#4: Port Charles
#3: thirtysomething
#2: Star Trek: The Next Generation
#1: L.A. Law

Honorable Mention: Will & Grace. The clip on the site is abbreviated. If it had been the longer version heard in more recent shows, I would have ranked it #1.
