Douche Bag Of The Week: Short And Smelly

Today's Douche Bag of the Week award goes to Iran's short and smelly President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This asshole wants permission to lay a wreath at the site of the WTC while he's here addressing the U.N. next week. [If you aren't up for a right-wingish rant, you might want to skip this post.]

No doubt he'll be bashing America and Israel, and buying time to get a nuclear bomb. Ummm, if it weren't for his support of the killers and their ilk, the events on 9/11 may not have happened. Doesn't he get it? Of course he does, 'cause he's all about creating controversy and trying to make Americans look bad. I mean, this is high school level manipulation and lying. I suppose that's fine if you're so fucking backed-up in your thinking, but hell no he wants to do it on the grave of our fallen innocents. Go home and torture some more political opponents and leave us alone.

I have a brilliant idea. I say we detain his sorry ass and "interrogate" him just like the Iranian government did to Iranian-Americans that were recently visiting Iran. How could he complain? It's the policy of his very government that thinks this behavior is permissible.

Quite frankly, I'm old enough to remember the hostage standoff from '79-'80 where Americans were held by Islamic revolutionaries for two years. For those of you too young, did you realize the late-night television news show Nightline started as a daily recap of what was happening on that story? It is reported that Ahmadinejad was one of the people that took part in the kidnappings. Hardly a surprise then that Iran has a government policy of doing it now, is it?

I wouldn't consider myself a warmonger, but I'm no peacenik either. I wish we'd have bombed the bastards back then. I love Jimmy Carter, but I think it is one of the most serious mistakes he made while in office. He should have taken out Ayatollah Kackamemmi and his fascists when he had the chance.

Short and smelly is my Douche Bag of the Week.

I, too, remember the Iranian hostage crisis. Of course, I'm sure many Iranians our age remember when their country was ruled by the authoritarian Shah, with US support. You don't find a lot of good guys in the story of US-Iranian relations.

I also remember that the 9/11 hijackers by and large came from Saudi Arabia (our ally!) as did the money to finance the operation, that Saudi Arabia is so repressive that any sane person would want to escape it to go live in Iran, and yet we don't get this worked up over Saudis coming to our country. (Compare the treatment of Jews in the two countries; Iran is bad, Saudi is a horror show.)

After 9/11 Iran expressed support and sorrow for us. Yes, there are plenty of bad things going on at the behest of their government. But I have no problem with him coming here and speaking and I would have let him lay the wreath, because it would have shown that we're a strong, confident country that isn't threatened by an Iranian leader spouting his insane theories about the Holocaust.

But apparently we are not that kind of country after all.

(Oh, and I have to wonder - when did you get to smell him? That sounds an awful lot like a "smelly middle Easterner" slur to me. I doubt you intended that, but it sure comes across that way.)

I've read many reports of his poor hygiene...if memory serves, it is a common joke among the Iranian populace.

I've never heard of a "smelly middle Easterner" as a slur, and I don't associate being smelly with being from the Middle East as I know many people from Iran/the Middle East, so that's a new one on me. Interesting, though, that you jumped to that conclusion when it isn't anything that even entered my mind. Hmmmm.

The smelly French, now that I've heard. I guess I need to brush up on my knowledge of slurs.

However, I do intend the use of these words to be a disparaging remark against him.

I'm well aware of all the facts regarding 9/11 and the status of people of Jewish descent in Iran so I don't need a history sermon. I don't like him. So sue me.

The hijackers on 9/11 were Egyptian and Saudi, not Iranian. Yes - he's nuts. But if it wasn't for our dumbass Preznit mouthing off, a more progressive Iranian president would be in office today.

I would let him lay the wreath. After all, the dumbass who let it happen is still in office.

You said more than "I don't like him." Forgive me for assuming that it was legitimate to respond.

Indeed, you did more than just "respond." It's one thing to comment, quite another to passive-aggressively project your baggage onto me and label me a racist.

In the time it took you to provide your feedback, you could have googled "ahmadinejad poor hygiene" and found a ton of references to the New York Times article where I read this. After reading your feedback, it took me 15 seconds to find the reference since I was curious as to where I'd read it.

Comments, both pro and con, are welcome if they are presented in a respectful and reasonable way. Personal attacks are over the line and I won't let them stand without defending myself.
