Low Cal Diet Tip #5: Vending Machines Are Evil

Those mid-morning and mid-afternoon hankerings at work arise to the delight of the ubiquitous vending machine. They're evil for a diet, sent direct from hell by Satan himself.

Compare:

Kit Kat Bar
220 calories

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (2)
230 calories

Milky Way Bar
260 calories

Low Calorie Alternatives:

Act II 94% Fat Free MiniBag of Popcorn
100 calories
Bulky and filling.

Or, bring one of these from home:

Jello Chocolate/Vanilla Pudding Cup (Dairy Case)
110 calories

Jello Sugar-Free Chocolate/Vanilla Pudding Cup (Dairy Case)
60 calories
You can satisfy your sweet tooth and chocolate cravings and save hundreds of calories simply by steering clear of the chocolate bars.

Stay away from the popcorn. Even though it is filling, and will scrape the walls of your intestines for a good cleaning on the way out - it is horrible for your insulin levels. Instead of pudding, get a balance bar, or a protein bar (MetRx is a good brand albeit expensive)

For me, I don't like the taste of those bars. Blech! And I think they are high in calories. Anyone else found a good vending machine alternative? I used to work with folks that swore by 0 fat pretzels and red licorice Twizzlers. I think they were on low fat diets vs low calorie.

1 Lb = 3500 calories; so my theory is that you have to expend 3500 more calories than you eat just to lose one pound!

Interesting about the popcorn on the insulin. I wonder if the insulin inbalance makes you hungrier later on which kinda exacerbates the problem of eating too much?

Last time I ate a few bags of popcorn, I think I got rid of pieces of steak I ate about 5 years ago! Double blech!

The bear claws and powdered donuts are the worst!

And sun chips and trail mix seem to be the best from the machine.
