There's been a lot of talk on the Democratic side about this historic element of a Woman-American or African-American running and potentially winning.
But the Republican side is historic, too. A Vietnam War Veteran-American (Kerry ran but lost), and a Mormon-American.
Ain't America great?!

No. America is circling the drain. I am happy to be a democrat today though!
A "Mormon-American", ha. You're right though, it is historic on that side as well. But there's the evangelical freakshow with the downhome name to keep tradition strong.
I do give McCain the highest respect for his bravery in Vietnam ... he went through some seriously brutal shit, even refusing an opportunity to go home (his dad was a big time admiral) because other POWs had been there longer than he, and he stuck by the military honor thing of "first in, first out".
On the other hand, his past racist comments have negated some of that respect, so there you go.
I can disagree with nearly everything McCain says and still respect him. And I do.
