Local Newsman Out Of The Closet

Newsman Steve Ammerman, co-anchor for the local ABC affiliate WTEN Channel 10, is featured in the Juno 08 issue of Instinct magazine. The article, This Just In Out, discusses his career path from Topeka, KS (where he interviewed "God Hates Fags" Fred Phelps) to New York's Capital District. Now he also serves on the Board of Directors for the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York.

He's my favorite local anchor as he seems affable and engaging. Every so often my gaydar would go off. Now I know it isn't out of whack!

That name reminds me of the ABC meteorologist in L.A.: Dallas Raines.

Gay and cute is always a winning combination. I've heard that he's a really nice guy.

A gay newscaster? Who'd a thunk it?

We even had one in Kelowna when I lived there, and the on-air staff at that station was 10 or 12; the Vancouver one used to do the late newscast, and at the end he'd have to make small talk with the meathead who read the sports. Guaranteed hilarity every single night: "How 'bout those Lions, Ethan?" "Uh, yeah... Grrr..."
