Still More Thoughts On The Convention

Random thoughts about Thursday night at the Democratic convention:

• Barack Obama did okay with his speech. I had built this up in my mind to be another "I Have A Dream" speech that would ring in our ears for decades. Or did I just buy into the media drum beat that it was 45 years to the day that Martin Luther King Jr. delivered that historic speech. Obama didn't make history although he was perfectly adequate and didn't make any gaffes. The speech felt like a State of the Union to me and I've read accounts that other people felt the same way.
• Nearly 40 million people watched on television! More than the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies and the American Idol finale. Around 20 million tuned in to watch John Kerry's speech four years ago and George W. Bush drew 27.6 million.
• I just couldn't get over the wide shots of the stadium. I heard there were lots of folks that showed up and couldn't get in so it wasn't a fluke the place was packed.
• Let's hope the folks that attended will go out and turn Colorado blue in November.
• I was impressed with the "ordinary" folks that came out and told their personal stories. These people were talking in front of 84,000 people...I get nervous standing in front of 10!

More Thoughts On The Convention

Random thoughts about Wednesday night at the Democratic convention:

• The whole night was back-to-back speakers that collectively blew the roof off the place. Honestly, I think each one of them were even better than Hillary last night.
• Senator John Kerry rocked the house.
• President Clinton rocked the house. I've had the opportunity to see both Bill and Hillary Clinton speak at different fundraisers and they are very powerful. Bill has a unique ability to explain what he's thinking and get you on board.
• Beau Biden is a babe and rocked the house. I wish him well on his upcoming tour with the Army in Iraq. I was going to make him my Hunk-A-Lot today but couldn't find a pic that did him justice.
• Joe Biden rocked the house. He'll make an awesome vice president.
• Joe Biden's hair plugs look even worse in high def. And does he have a mouth full of big capped teeth or what? Meow! I think he's great, I'm just being catty.

A Few Convention Observations

Random thoughts about Tuesday night at the Democratic convention:

• Virginia Governor Warner looked like a corpse that just popped up out of a coffin.
• What was up with W.C. Fields Bill Clinton biting his tongue in some sort of weird habit?
• Hillary is aging pretty well due to some good plastic surgery. Bill, not so much.
• Chelsea Clinton turned out pretty good considering the whirlwind life she's led.
• Joe Biden needs a new haircut. I know by the plugs he's self-conscious about losing it on top but he shouldn't try to make it up with shaggy in the back.
• Loved Hillary's comment about the Republican convention going to be in the perfect setting of the twin cities since Bush and McCain are twins, too.
