Ed Weaver Is A Nitwit 12.16.06

This week, Ed Weaver is huffing and puffing about local Congresswoman-elect Kirsten Gillibrand and her reasoning for increasing the minimum wage. That's the first part of his article...the second part is about the balance of power in the Senate. He complains that the Democrats should be more worried about the health of a fellow Senator rather than what will happen to the balance of power. I wholeheartedly agree, and said the same thing when the Republicans were caught ringing their hands as they calculated the loss of the seat held by Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL). Where was Mr. Weaver then?

Here are two excerpts from Weaver's 12.16.06 article and my feelings about them:

He casts doubt on the legitimacy of the Democratic seat from New Jersey held by Frank Lautenberg that was resolved in the courts back in 2002.

"The Democrats went to court, as they so often do to get what the (sic) want/need."
Earth to Ed...take a look at Republican Governor Mitt Romney who is trying to force an initiative onto the Massachusetts ballot in 2008 that was blocked, through its inaction on the subject, by the legislature. How's he going about pushing it through? He's suing in those darn courts, of course.

Weaver then continues on with the familiar right wing drumbeat:
"In another clear case of a handful of activist liberal judges overturning the legislature..." [Emphasis mine.]
Tell that to Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who vetoed the California legislature's passage of a same-sex marriage bill in 2005. His reasoning? It should be decided in the courts. Yep, those pesky courts again. If it was left to the legislature, same-sex marriage would be legal in the Golden State.

UPDATE: I submitted an abbreviated version of last week's post to The Record newspaper. They published it in the December 17 edition as a Letter To The Editor. I'm thankful that they thought it was worthy enough to hold until the highest circulation Sunday issue.

Ed Weaver's column appears every Saturday in The Record newspaper in Troy, NY. I'd say he's a right-wing conservative, but all indications are that he's even whackier than that. His views are so skewed, and based in a reality that I don't even recognize, that I think he sees the world through fun house mirrors‚ only it isn't funny. He's proof of the theory that hindsight is 20/20, only his vision is 20/100...20 for those things that support his views, 100 for those that don't.
