Ed Weaver Is A Nitwit 3.10.07

In my previous post on Ed Weaver's 3.3.07 column, I mentioned that I called in to the Troy Record's anonymous Sound Off column and left the following message: "Scooter Libby and Dick Cheney — one down, one to go!" I'm happy to report it was published yesterday.

Ed Weaver concentrated this week's column in the defense of Scooter Libby, the highest ranking administration official to be convicted since the Reagan "I can't remember" Iran Contra hearings.

"Hopefully, this travesty will be overturned on appeal."

Scooter may not have been the big fish here, but taking the liberty of throwing in another animal metaphor, birds of a feather flock together. And his cowardly bosses let him go down, knowing that they are going to pardon him anyway. Tough guy Cheney hid behind his underlings and lawyers.

We're dealing with an administration that acts with impunity, firing government lawyers for prosecuting Republicans, and replacing them with others that will ignore their misdeeds. When they were in cahoots with the Republican-controlled Congress, they were able to get away with it with no oversight. At least now the Democratic-controlled Congress is holding investigative hearings to try and keep some level of honesty in our government. Go Senator Schumer! President Bush's lap boy Alberto Gonzales may be the next in a series of crooks to get the boot.

I will reluctantly say that I've come to the conclusion that it's too much to expect people to be honest and act with any sense of integrity. Whether it's a politician, or a partner who acts like you'd be nothing without them, trustworthy people are diamonds in the rough. Oh, by the way, do you like my sparkle?!

Ed Weaver's column appears every Saturday in The Record newspaper in Troy, NY. I'd say he's a right-wing conservative, but all indications are that he's even whackier than that. His views are so skewed, and based in a reality that I don't even recognize, that I think he sees the world through fun house mirrors, only it isn't funny. He's proof of the theory that hindsight is 20/20, only his vision is 20/100...20 for those things that support his views, 100 for those that don't.
